Valerie Zwart studied at the University of Toronto followed by the Ontario College of Art and Design. Her work has been shown internationally and is in private and corporate collections. Zwart came to art after a brief career in environmental consulting. Her background, as well as her several international moves, have resulted in a fascination for subjective experiences of the natural and built environment which inspires much of her work.
From 2009 to 2013 Zwart had her own gallery and active studio practice in the cultural quarter of Enschede, the Netherlands, where she showed her own and the work of others. This activity developed into a curatorial practice through a series of themed exhibitions concerning the reception and consumption of art.
Valerie’s studio is at East Street Arts in Leeds, UK. Her current work thoughtfully blends media and materiality in an exploration of both digital aesthetics and traditional painting.
