Maggie Hargreaves is interested in the constantly shifting space where we interact with the natural world we inhabit. Prior to studying Fine Art Maggie was a post doctoral research Biologist and this is reflected in a process driven practice where she works with drawing, print, sculpture and installation. Maggie creates work which can be approached from various entry points; sometimes hints of narrative trigger associations which may lead in different directions, photographic representation and figuration may be employed to encourage connection with the illusory spaces in the work while the artifice of construction is made obvious. Processes utilised reflect the conceptual basis of the work.
Throughout our history, we have sought to dominate and tame our natural environment to conform to our lifestyles. Over time the consequences of this approach are becoming apparent. Our inextricable link to the natural environment and dependence on it moving forward are now being explored.
